HTD Talent Announces 'Elevate' Scholarships to Upskill Black Software Engineers in Charlotte

Updated: Oct 25, 2023

HTD Talent, a Charlotte-based emerging talent company, has committed $100,000 in scholarships to train Black IT professionals for more advanced and higher-paying jobs using cloud technologies.

The need for cloud skills is growing quickly as an estimated 75% of all databases will move to cloud by the end of 2022, according to Gartner. Hiring managers are finding that legacy software engineers don’t have the necessary skills to build and maintain cloud applications.

“We are absolutely thrilled to have the opportunity to elevate the careers of Black engineers into the most in-demand segments of tech,” said Robert Rolle, HTD Talent’s Co-Founder. “We recognize that the best way to solve the cloud skills gap is to upskill engineers who already have a strong software engineering foundation.”

HTD Talent will select Black professionals with two to five years of software engineering experience and will invite them to join the initial training cohort starting in October. All trainees will be local to the Charlotte Metro region.

HTD Talent will offer a unique hybrid training model that is self-paced with real-time instructor support. This allows engineers to complete the training without taking time away from their current roles.

“We want to remove the cost and time barriers to allow Black engineers to be able to continue their career growth at their own pace,” said Co-Founder Chris Wascak. “This scholarship will provide training free of charge as long as trainees can commit at least six hours per week.”

Once training is complete, HTD Talent will align the upskilled cloud engineers with open jobs across the Charlotte Metro region.

Applications are open through September 16 at the following link: https://www.linkedin.com/jobs/view/3250404616/

HTD Talent plans to offer more scholarships towards data and advanced software skillsets in the near future.
